Fans of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones will now have the opportunity to bid on over 2,000 items of memorabilia from the show, including costumes, props, set pieces, and more. The auction, organized by Heritage Auctions, will feature items starting at prices ranging from $500 to $20,000, such as Jaime Lannister’s armor, Daenerys Targaryen’s cloaks, Jon Snow’s sword, and Tyrion Lannister’s Hand of the Queen Pin. Even lesser-known items like props from memorable scenes are expected to draw attention from fans during the bidding process.

HBO’s senior vice president of global incentives and production planning, Jay Roewe, emphasized the significance of the auction as a chance for fans to own a piece of history from the iconic series. Roewe highlighted the cultural impact of Game of Thrones, describing it as a “zeitgeist moment” in high-end television that has resonated with audiences worldwide. He noted that while some items date back to the show’s inception in 2011, HBO has taken care to preserve and maintain the quality of these props and costumes over the years.

Despite the longevity of the series and the preservation efforts, HBO has decided to make these items available to the public as they no longer need them for potential spinoffs or sequels. The auction required extensive collaboration between HBO and Heritage Auctions, with months of research and planning to ensure a comprehensive collection that appeals to fans and collectors. The catalog, spanning 750 pages, features interviews with key creators and cast members, offering insights into the usage and significance of each item up for auction.

Joe Maddalena, the executive vice president of Heritage Auctions, highlighted the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail in the costumes and props featured in the auction. He praised Emmy-winning costume designer Michele Clapton for her intricate designs that contributed to the storytelling in the series. Maddalena described the availability of detailed information about the items as “uncharted territory” in the auction world, noting that everything in the collection comes directly from the show’s archive.

For fans eager to participate in the auction, preliminary bidding is now open with the official auction taking place from October 10 to 12 through Heritage Auctions in Dallas. The collection will be available for preview in New York and London locations from September 17 to October 4. With the vast array of items available, including those worn by iconic characters and featured in memorable scenes, fans of Game of Thrones have the opportunity to own a piece of television history through this unique auction event.
