The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse resulted in the recovery of a fourth body, which was found in the waters near the site of the incident. The body was positively identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The container ship Dali caused the collapse when it hit one of the Key Bridge’s support piers while leaving the Port of Baltimore. The majority of the structure fell into the Patapsco River. The body was discovered in what was believed to be one of the missing construction vehicles, according to salvage teams and authorities.

The identity of the deceased individual will not be released at the request of the victim’s family, who met with state officials to discuss the discovery. This marks the fourth body found at the scene, with two other victims still missing and presumed dead. Superintendent of the Maryland Department of State Police Col. Roland L. Butler, Jr. expressed condolences for the lives lost and vowed to continue the recovery operation with all available resources. The Unified Command, which consists of multiple law enforcement agencies, is dedicated to exhausting all physical and technical aspects of their training to aid in the recovery efforts.

Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced plans for the city to take legal action against the parties involved in the bridge collapse. The City of Baltimore is committed to holding all accountable for the Key Bridge tragedy, including the owner, charterer, manager/operator, and the manufacturer of the M/V Dali. The mayor acknowledged the devastating impact the disaster has had on the city and emphasized the importance of seeking recourse for those affected. With the ship’s owner already filing a petition to limit liability shortly after the incident, swift action is necessary to protect the interests of the city.

The recovery efforts are ongoing, with officials continuing to work tirelessly to locate the remaining missing individuals and bring closure to their families. The tragedy of the Key Bridge collapse has sent shockwaves through the community and highlighted the importance of safety measures in transportation infrastructure. The incident has prompted a renewed focus on ensuring the structural integrity of bridges and other critical infrastructure to prevent similar disasters in the future. The Unified Command remains dedicated to supporting the victims’ families and coordinating a comprehensive response to the aftermath of the bridge collapse.

Authorities and law enforcement agencies are collaborating to investigate the cause of the Key Bridge collapse and determine any liabilities associated with the incident. The City of Baltimore’s legal action aims to hold all responsible parties accountable and seek justice for the victims and their families. As the recovery operation extends into its next phase, the community continues to mourn the lives lost and support those affected by the tragedy. The tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the potential risks involved in transportation infrastructure and the need for robust safety measures to protect public safety in the future.
