Forest’s anger was more focused on Attwell, due to a belief that he is a Luton Town fan. Former Premier League referee Clattenburg, now employed by Forest as a match and performance analyst, rang PGMOL chief Howard Webb last Friday ahead of the game, but stopped short of asking for Attwell to be taken off VAR duty. Clattenburg merely alerted Webb to the fact that Forest were expecting to get questions about Attwell being a Luton fan at their pre-match press conference with Nuno Espirito Santo. No questions were forthcoming and Webb didn’t remove him.

Also, UEFA is set to stick with 26-man squads for this summer’s Euros in Germany. It’s understood that the national teams competitions committee voted to increase squad size from 23 to 26. UEFA allowed teams to name 26 players each for the first time at Euro 2020, to help them cope with Covid-19 and to manage player welfare after the condensed 2020-21 season, caused by the pandemic. UEFA’s ruling executive committee could rubberstamp the proposal this week. Keeping squads at 26 players received the backing of national team coaches at a pre-tournament workshop earlier this month.
