Four people killed by falling trees during storm in New York, Pennsylvania, and Northeastern United States

Severe storms hit the Northeast this week, resulting in at least four fatalities in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Hampshire. In New York’s Westchester County, a woman named Cathy Tusiani was killed when a tree uprooted by strong winds crashed into her car. Two more people died in Pennsylvania as trees collapsed from powerful winds: one in Aston and another in Collegeville. In Derry, New Hampshire, a woman was killed when a tree fell on her home, causing a propane tank to explode. These incidents underscored the dangers posed by falling trees during severe weather events.

Large trees fell in and around the New York City metropolitan area, causing damage in Central Park and far-northern Manhattan. In Pennsylvania, the town of Aston faced a fatality when a tree fell onto a car, while in Collegeville, an 82-year-old woman died after a tree uprooted and smashed into her vehicle. The Northeast was also hit by power outages and flooding, with hundreds of thousands without power in New Hampshire and Maine. Parts of Massachusetts faced strong winds and large waves, causing flooding and property damage along the coast.

The storm that hit the Northeast originated in the Midwest, Ohio Valley, and Southeast, causing suspected tornadoes and widespread destruction along its path. Despite the severe weather, authorities reported relatively few injuries in the affected areas. One death was reported in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as storms caused flooding that swept a woman away. The Storm Prediction Center issued an advisory forecasting heavy snowfall in New England but noted that the worst of the storm was expected to subside, although certain areas could still experience snow accumulation in the coming days.

The fatalities caused by falling trees during the severe storms highlight the need for caution during extreme weather conditions. Residents across the Northeast expressed concern about the dangers posed by large trees and took precautions to prevent potential accidents. As the region faced power outages, flooding, and property damage, meteorologists warned of continued strong winds and snow accumulation in certain areas. The impact of the storm was felt across multiple states, underscoring the importance of preparedness and safety measures during severe weather events.
