Four instructors from Cornell College in Iowa were stabbed while visiting Beishan Park in China with a faculty member from Beihua University. The instructors were participating in a partnership program between the two universities. Thankfully, all four instructors survived the attack and are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. It is unclear what led to the stabbing and whether it was a targeted or random attack.

There were no students involved in the program at the time of the incident. Iowa lawmakers and the family of one of the victims have expressed shock and concern over the brutal stabbing. Video footage of the aftermath of the attack circulated on social media before being taken down. The US State Department is aware of the incident and is monitoring the situation in China. Previously, a Level 3 travel advisory had been issued for mainland China due to concerns over arbitrary detentions and exit bans.

Despite the incident, Cornell College is working to assist the injured instructors and bring them home safely. Lawmakers, including Rep. Ashley Hinson, have expressed their support for the victims and their families. The community is urged to keep the instructors in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. It is important to note that some US colleges and universities have suspended partnerships with Chinese institutions due to the travel advisory issued by the State Department.

The attack on the instructors in China has raised concerns over the safety of Americans traveling to the country. It is essential to prioritize the well-being and security of individuals participating in international programs. As the situation continues to unfold, it is crucial for authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly to determine the motive behind the stabbing. Efforts must be made to ensure the safe return of the injured instructors and provide them with the necessary support during their recovery.

The partnership between Cornell College and Beihua University has been in place for some time, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in education. Despite the incident, it is essential to continue fostering relationships between universities around the world. The attack serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with traveling abroad and the importance of staying informed about potential threats in different regions.

As the injured instructors receive medical treatment and support, the community must come together to offer assistance and solidarity. The incident in China has brought attention to the need for increased security measures for individuals participating in international programs. By working together and staying vigilant, we can help prevent such tragic events from happening in the future. The well-being and safety of educators participating in global partnerships must remain a top priority for institutions and authorities worldwide.
