Former neo-Nazi, who inspired character in ‘American History X’, transforms into observant Jew after DNA revelation

Frank Meeink, a former neo-Nazi who inspired Edward Norton’s character in “American History X,” has revealed that he is Jewish after discovering his heritage through DNA testing. Meeink, who was once a leader of a violent ultra-right group and intensely anti-semitic, has now embraced his Jewish ancestry and religion. He has become an observant Jew, praying three times daily, wearing traditional Jewish clothing, attending synagogue, and keeping kosher.

Growing up in a predominantly Irish-Catholic neighborhood in Philadelphia, Meeink was influenced by his neo-Nazi cousin and subsequently joined the Ku Klux Klan before forming his own extremist group. He used his platform to spread hate and engage in violent acts against those he deemed his enemies, including kidnapping and torturing a member of an anti-facist group. However, his perspective began to shift during his time in prison, where he developed friendships with black inmates that challenged his racist beliefs.

After leaving prison, Meeink continued to struggle with alcohol and drug abuse before finding work at an antiques store owned by a Jewish man named Keith Brookstein. Brookstein’s compassion and forgiveness had a profound impact on Meeink, leading him to renounce his extremist views and embrace Judaism. His faith in Judaism has been a source of strength and guidance as he has faced personal challenges, including the loss of his son, mother, and marriage within a short period.

Following his transformation, Meeink has become an advocate against neo-Nazism and has spoken out against hate groups attempting to infiltrate institutions like the police force. He hopes to share his story through a film that would serve as a sequel to “American History X,” highlighting the power of love over hatred. Meeink’s journey from a violent extremist to an observant Jew serves as a powerful example of redemption and the ability to overcome a troubled past through faith and personal growth.

Through his commitment to his faith and recovery journey, Meeink has found a sense of humility and purpose in helping others. He continues to call his “recovery rabbi” daily and emphasizes the importance of staying focused on spirituality as a way to navigate life’s challenges. Despite his dark past, Meeink’s story is one of hope and resilience, showing that it is never too late to change and choose a path of love and understanding over hate and violence.

As he continues to share his story and advocate for positive change, Meeink’s journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of faith and compassion. By embracing his Jewish heritage and rejecting his former beliefs, he has found a renewed sense of purpose and a commitment to making the world a better place. Through his actions and advocacy, Meeink embodies the idea that love and understanding are essential in overcoming hate and division in society.
