The flight attendant confirmed that the triangles were indeed located at either row 10 or row 18, depending on the type of aircraft. Some passengers initially thought that the triangles were flies that had entered the plane when they noticed them next to their seats.
In a Quora post from 2015, a retired aerospace engineer explained that the black triangles mark the location of what is known as ‘William Shatner’s Seat,’ which offers the clearest view of the wing inside the airplane. This seat is the best position to visually check for ice or other issues on the wing.
