Negligence led to an accident in Antalya, resulting in the death of one person, injuries to seven others, and 174 people being trapped in the cable cars. The trial process has begun for the Antalya cable car accident, with 5 of the 12 suspects appearing before the court for the first time at the 6th Heavy Penal Court.
The defendants are being tried for causing death and injury by negligence, as well as endangering traffic safety by negligence. Each of them faces a potential sentence of up to 27 years in prison.
The 36-page indictment identified 7 of the 12 individuals as primary culprits and 5 as secondary culprits. The defendants appeared before the judge to present their defense, with the plaintiffs also being heard.
Following the first hearing, the court announced an interim decision. According to the decision, the Mayor of Kepez Municipality, Mesut Kocagöz, will be tried without detention. The second hearing is scheduled for August 7th.
During the second hearing, the court decided to detain Assistant Operator Suphi Kaplan, who was being tried without detention, on the grounds of causing death by negligence based on the evidence. The detention of the other 4 defendants being tried in custody was also extended.
The second hearing of the trial, which includes 5 detained and 12 suspects in total, will take place on August 7th. The court will continue to hear testimonies and examine evidence to determine the liability of each individual involved in the cable car accident in Antalya. The families of the victims are seeking justice and accountability for the tragic incident.
