Corum Mayor Halil Ibrahim Asgin stated during the November Council Meeting that following the explosion at Hilal Apartment on November 3rd, damage assessment commissions were established by the Corum Municipality, the Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and the Provincial Treasury.
Asgin noted that the commission within the Corum Municipality was in the process of completing the damage assessment work, and at the same time, shelter opportunities were provided to those in need.
Asgin emphasized that the four members of parliament from Corum were constantly kept informed about the work carried out after the explosion. He also mentioned that AK Party Corum deputies Yusuf Ahlatci and Oguzhan Kaya had met with Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya to inform him about the situation.
Asgin stated that Minister Yerlikaya had called him twice to inquire about the developments. He praised the Turkish state as being the most compassionate and benevolent on earth, always standing by its citizens to heal their wounds. Despite the incident not falling under the scope of natural disasters, Minister Yerlikaya assured support through AFAD. With this support, they hoped to heal the wounds in a very short time.
After the completion of the damage assessment commission’s work, Asgin mentioned that the funds sent by the Ministry of Interior would be transferred to the Corum Municipality. He added that if necessary, a commission could be established by the municipal council for the distribution of these funds. With the resources provided by the Ministry of Interior, they hoped to heal all wounds in a short period.
Asgin expressed his gratitude to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Minister Yerlikaya, Governor Ali Calgan, and deputies Ahlatci and Kaya for their support to the affected citizens. In a written statement by the Corum Municipality, it was reported that besides Hilal Apartment, where a demolition decision was made, damage assessment work was carried out in 55 other residential and commercial properties in the region.
On November 3, in the explosion caused by natural gas at Hilal Apartment on Osmancik Street in Corum, one person lost their life, and 33 others were injured. The local authorities continue their efforts to support and assist those affected by the tragic incident.
