Final push: Harris and Trump host competing events and rallies in key swing state

Vice President Kamala Harris is making a push for Michigan, a crucial battleground state, urging supporters to make a plan to vote and make their voices heard. Former President Trump, the Republican nominee, is also campaigning in Michigan, courting the state’s Arab American voters. Trump has seen an opening among these voters due to their anger at the current administration’s support for Israel. Despite Trump’s claims that he is leading in Michigan, recent polls show a very slight edge for him over Harris in a margin-of-error race. Michigan is one of seven swing states that will likely determine the outcome of the election between Harris and Trump to succeed President Biden.

Michigan, along with Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, make up the Democrats’ “Blue Wall” of Rust Belt states that were reliably won by the party for a quarter-century before Trump narrowly captured them in 2016. In 2020, Biden carried all three states by razor-thin margins to put them back in the Democrats’ column and defeat Trump. Both Harris and Trump have made numerous stops in these Blue Wall states this summer and autumn, building up their campaigns to win the tight battlegrounds. Michigan is a must-win state for Harris, and she is spending time there with events in suburban Oakland County and Detroit.

Harris and Trump are both courting Arab American voters in Michigan, a group that makes up over two percent of the state’s population, the highest percentage in the nation. While Trump claims the support of some Arab American voters due to their discontent with the current administration’s policies, Harris is working to mobilize other voters in the state. Both campaigns are focusing on get-out-the-vote efforts, recognizing the importance of winning Michigan in the election. Michigan is known for its unique dynamics, with Harris facing perceived weaknesses with Arab American voters and a significant Black electorate.

As the race heats up in Michigan, both campaigns are making a final push to win over voters in the state. Harris is emphasizing the importance of making a plan to vote and ensuring that everyone’s voice is heard. Trump is confident in his support among some Arab American voters and points to recent polls showing him with a slight edge in the state. Both candidates are focused on the Rust Belt battlegrounds of Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, with Michigan playing a crucial role in deciding the outcome of the election. As the campaign intensifies, Harris and Trump continue to make appearances in Michigan to rally support and secure crucial votes in the state.
