Feijóo criticizes Sánchez for “victimization” and “dereliction of duties”: “He has a judicial problem”

The President of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, criticized the actions of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez in a session of Congress. Feijóo accused Sánchez of trying to victimize himself and polarize society in order to rally support for the upcoming elections. The PP was shocked by Sánchez’s public letter threatening to resign due to attacks against his wife, and Feijóo called it a “dereliction of duty” on the part of the Prime Minister. Feijóo also criticized Sánchez for not providing explanations or facing his judicial issues directly, instead choosing to retreat for five days of reflection.

Feijóo and the PP questioned the motives behind Sánchez’s decision to step back and reflect on his future in office, emphasizing that it was a tactic to avoid responsibility and gain sympathy. They highlighted the ongoing judicial investigations against Sánchez’s wife as the real issue at hand, rather than accusations from the far-right pseudo-syndicate Manos Limpias. The PP expressed discomfort with the origins of the legal complaint, distancing themselves from any association with Manos Limpias. Despite their ongoing political offensive against Sánchez’s wife, the party did not bring up the issue in a session of Congress, opting to delay any further comments.

Following the session of Congress, the PP continued to focus on Sánchez’s wife, Begoña Gómez, with the vice secretary of the party demanding further explanations about her professional activities and implying suspicions about other family members of the Prime Minister. The party maintained its attention on Gómez throughout the day, with social media posts and statements. The PP speculated on Sánchez’s next steps after his five-day reflection period, considering possibilities such as his resignation, calling for elections, or potentially facing a vote of confidence, with the party acknowledging the uncertainty of the situation.

Despite the initial confusion and shock at Sánchez’s actions, the PP is now engaging in theories about his next move after the reflection period. Some party members believe that Sánchez may be preparing for a confidence vote in order to secure his position as Prime Minister. The PP acknowledges the complexities of the situation but remains determined in their focus on Sánchez’s wife and the ongoing judicial investigations. The party is prepared for any outcome and is closely monitoring developments as they continue to critique the actions of the government.
