A suspicious object resembling a bomb was reported by citizens at the exit of the metro station on Turgut Özal Boulevard in Istanbul. Bomb disposal teams arrived at the scene and examined the object located in a hole on the wall next to the elevator that descends to the metro station.
After taking security measures in the area, the suspicious object was neutralized by the bomb disposal teams. The incident prompted an investigation by the Küçükçekmece Public Prosecutor’s Office.
An announcement from the Istanbul Governorate stated that the Istanbul Police Directorate received a bomb threat at 3:07 pm today, leading them to head towards the Başakşehir Turgut Özal Metro Station. During their inspection of the area, a “homemade decorative bomb-like object” hidden on the wall between Turgut Özal Metro Station and Esenler Industrial Site was found. The area was evacuated and necessary security measures were taken.
The announcement also mentioned that the object was rendered harmless by bomb disposal experts. It contained 2 grams of unidentified flammable powder, a firecracker fuse, an empty medicine box wrapped in clear tape, and a pen battery. Authorities are continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend the individual who placed the device in the area.
