The Beatles fans were thrilled as Disney+ released the trailer for the iconic documentary Let It Be, which will be available on the streaming platform from May 8. Directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, the original film was released in May 1970, showcasing the band’s album recording process and final live performance as a group. This restoration of Let It Be will include previously unseen footage not featured in the Get Back docuseries, bringing fans into the studio and atop Apple Corps’ London rooftop in January 1969. Fans expressed their excitement at being able to watch the documentary for the first time in 50 years, sharing their love for The Beatles and the joy they felt hearing the narrator from the original 1970 trailer.

Michael Lindsay-Hogg, the director of Let It Be, has highlighted how the timing of the film’s original release in 1970 impacted its perception. While the film originally received a somber response due to The Beatles’ breakup, Lindsay-Hogg believes that viewers will now see the joy and happiness that was present during the band’s rehearsals and rooftop concert. Through a meticulous restoration process led by Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production, the film has been remastered from the original 16mm negative, with the sound also receiving a high-quality makeover using advanced technology. Lindsay-Hogg expressed his admiration for Jackson’s work on the Get Back docuseries, which inspired the restoration of Let It Be and completes the story of The Beatles’ creative journey.

Let It Be will provide fans with a deeper understanding of The Beatles’ final album production and their last live performance together on the rooftop of their recording base in January 1969. The film features John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and Billy Preston, the only musician credited on a Beatles record for his piano contributions on Get Back. With Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, and the late John Lennon and George Harrison making appearances in the documentary, fans can expect a nostalgic journey through the iconic band’s creative process and historic final moments as a group. The film was executively produced by The Beatles themselves, with Neil Aspinall as the producer and Anthony B Richmond serving as Director of Photography.

Peter Jackson, who previously worked on the Emmy Award-winning docuseries The Beatles: Get Back, collaborated with Apple Corps to ensure the restoration and re-release of Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s Let It Be. Jackson emphasized the importance of Let It Be in completing the Get Back story, providing vital context for viewers to understand the band’s journey and creative process leading up to their breakup. The restored version of Let It Be will be released as an exclusive on Disney+ on May 8, delivering a comprehensive and immersive experience for fans to witness The Beatles’ legacy and final moments as a group. The collaboration between Lindsay-Hogg, Jackson, and Apple Corps aims to showcase the band’s joy and camaraderie during their album recording sessions and memorable rooftop concert, offering a new perspective on The Beatles’ iconic history and music.
