Ex-Trump aide who urged to ‘fan the flame’ after 2020 defeat appointed to head Wisconsin GOP

Andrew Iverson, the director of Donald Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign in Wisconsin, has been appointed as the executive director of the Republican Party of Wisconsin. Iverson, who had previously pushed claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election that were later debunked, will now lead the party into the November election and prepare for the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. He replaces Mark Jefferson, who left in February to take on a new role.

Iverson, a graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran College, has a background in political campaigning, having worked on various campaigns in the state, including for U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson and U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil. In his role as the state director for Trump Victory in 2020, Iverson had made statements supporting claims made by the Trump campaign that the election had been stolen. However, the results in Wisconsin have been verified through audits and reviews, with Joe Biden winning the state by nearly 21,000 votes.

Following Trump’s loss in Wisconsin in 2020, Iverson had urged other operatives to spread the narrative that the election had been stolen by Democrats. He had also highlighted discrepancies in certain counties, such as Dane County and Milwaukee, as reasons for Trump’s defeat. Despite his efforts to challenge the election results, the Wisconsin Supreme Court rejected Trump’s case seeking to overturn the outcome. Iverson later clarified his comments, attributing them to poor choice of words and lack of context.

The Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman, Brian Schimming, expressed his enthusiasm for Iverson’s hiring, praising his experience and abilities, which he believes will be crucial for winning in November. With a high-profile U.S. Senate race and the upcoming presidential election, Wisconsin is seen as a key battleground state that could determine the outcome in 2024. Iverson expressed his eagerness to work towards reclaiming the White House and promoting conservative leadership, highlighting the importance of Wisconsin in the Republican Party’s chances in the upcoming election.

The hiring of Iverson comes at a critical time for the Republican Party in Wisconsin as they prepare for a competitive election season. With the state’s history of being a swing state and crucial in determining the outcome of past elections, Iverson’s role as the executive director of the party will be closely watched. His appointment signifies the party’s focus on mobilizing support and engaging with voters ahead of the November election, as well as their commitment to hosting a successful Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. The Republican Party of Wisconsin seeks to build on past successes and rally behind their candidates to secure victory in the upcoming elections.
