A fire broke out in the forest near Boyalı Mahallesi in the Gordes district yesterday around 14:30. Following the notification, teams affiliated with the Izmir Forest Regional Directorate were dispatched to the area to control the fire.
In response to the fire, 2 planes, 3 helicopters, 8 fire trucks, 2 water tankers, 1 bulldozer, and 1 ground crew intervened from the air and the ground. As the situation improved during the extinguishing efforts, a second forest fire broke out in the same area around 17:30.
Additional support was provided to the teams. A total of 5 planes, 13 helicopters, 45 fire trucks, 15 water tankers, 4 bulldozers, and 4 ground crews continued to battle the flames.
With the nightfall, intervention with night vision helicopters continued until the early hours of the morning. As the first light of the day emerged, the intervention efforts from the air and the ground against the fire were ongoing.
The firefighting efforts have intensified with the involvement of more aerial and ground resources, and the teams are continuing their operations to contain the forest fires in the region. The cause of the fires and the extent of the damage are yet to be determined as authorities work to bring the situation under control and protect the forest area from further destruction.
