A funeral was held for 5-year-old Eda Nur Gezer, who tragically lost her life after falling into a muddy pit in Istanbul’s Küçükçekmece district. The ceremony was attended by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, AK Party Istanbul Deputy Adem Yıldırım, Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, family members, and relatives.
During the funeral prayer in the courtyard of the Cemevi, Eda Nur Gezer’s mother, Nurcan Gezer, felt unwell and had to be calmed by her relatives. After Eda Nur’s father, Emrah Bodur, who was in prison, was brought to the ceremony, the funeral prayer took place.
Following a conversation between Istanbul Governor Davut Gül and the gendarmerie commander, Eda Nur Gezer’s father, Emrah Bodur, was allowed to stand at the front without handcuffs.
After the prayer, Eda Nur Gezer was laid to rest at the Esenyurt Köyiçi Cemetery. AK Party Istanbul Deputy Adem Yıldırım expressed concerns over the lack of safety measures at the construction site where the tragic incident occurred, emphasizing the need for accountability and justice for Eda Nur’s death.
Yıldırım criticized the idea of financial compensation as a means to absolve responsibility for such negligence, stating that the culprits must be identified and face legal consequences. He also highlighted the need to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future by holding those responsible for such negligence accountable.
Governor Gül expressed his condolences to the grieving family and assured that the legal process would determine the extent of negligence and identify those responsible. He also mentioned that the authorities would address the family’s social and economic needs in light of the tragic event.
The incident at Menekşe Sahil Park in Küçükçekmece, where Eda Nur lost her life, sparked an administrative and legal investigation by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and the Küçükçekmece Prosecution Office. The bereaved family members who attended the funeral expressed frustration over the lack of safety precautions at the construction site, where Eda Nur tragically fell into the water-filled pit.
