Dropbox, a file management giant, recently acquired Reclaim.ai, a startup based in Portland, Oregon that uses AI to help companies prioritize tasks and coordinate schedules through a calendar app. Reclaim has more than 320,000 users across 43,000 companies, including well-known customers such as PagerDuty, Zapier, and GitHub. Co-founders Patrick Lightbody and Henry Shapiro, along with 25 colleagues, will be joining Dropbox as a result of the acquisition.

The foundation of Reclaim was built on the belief that the calendar is a critical system for individuals, teams, and companies in understanding what tasks are being worked on and taking action. Dropbox’s CEO, Drew Houston, previously shared a similar vision for a calendar that assists users in creating a to-do list based on priorities. With the development of generative AI and automation tools, Reclaim aims to enhance its product by improving the interpretation of priorities and automating scheduling tasks to provide users with valuable guidance and simplify decision-making processes.

Reclaim envisions a future where users wake up to a pre-scheduled week based on their priorities and urgent needs. The platform is designed to be interconnected with various systems used for task management, allowing users to set instructions and take actions seamlessly without having to calculate the impact or adjust multiple variables. The company highlights the importance of linking changes in effort and direction back to project and priority systems, creating a dynamic environment where time and effort can adapt and tune themselves as tasks are completed.

Despite being acquired by Dropbox, Reclaim assures customers that there will be no immediate changes to product pricing or customer support. The company previously secured $9.5 million in funding from investors such as Yummy Ventures, Character, Flying Fish, and Grafana Labs CEO Raj Dutt. Competitors in the calendar time-management tools space include Clockwise and Calendly. Co-founder Patrick Lightbody brings prior experience in creating and selling software testing companies, while co-founder Henry Shapiro was a founding product manager at startups in the Portland area.

Dropbox has been actively expanding its portfolio through acquisitions, including the recent purchases of FormSwift, DocSend, and Command E. The company reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $634.5 million, with a 1.9% increase year-over-year, and net income of $110.5 million. Reclaim’s acquisition by Dropbox represents an alignment of visions in leveraging AI and automation to enhance productivity and streamline scheduling processes for individuals and businesses alike.
