Drew Allar, QB of No. 3 Penn State, May Not Play Against No. 4 Ohio State.

Penn State’s starting quarterback, Drew Allar, may not be able to play in the upcoming game against Ohio State due to a knee injury. Coach James Franklin confirmed that Allar hurt his knee during Penn State’s previous game against Wisconsin. He did try to return to the field afterwards wearing a brace, but only managed a brief warm-up before he had to step aside for Beau Pribula. Allar is a crucial player for the Penn State team, having completed 117 out of 164 passes for a combined distance of 1,640 yards so far this season.

Freshman Pribula was instrumental in keeping the Nittany Lions’ winning momentum during the Wisconsin game. He managed to both lead two touchdown drives and complete 11 out of 13 passes for 98 yards. His dual threat capabilities were further highlighted as he rushed a total of eight yards over four attempts. Regardless of his commendable performance, having Pribula, as probable starting quarterback in the upcoming high stakes match against Ohio State’s second-ranked defense, might be a serious trial given that it will be his first start.

At the moment, Franklin has not confirmed whether Allar will be fit to play in Saturday’s game. His contribution to Penn State’s success so far in the season makes his availability integral to the team. However, Franklin stated that the call on Allar’s participation will most likely be taken just ahead of the start of the game.

In the meantime, there is urgency to prepare other potential replacements. Third-string quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer is expected to train in preparation for the game along with Pribula. Jaxon Smolik, another freshman, is still in recovery from a preseason injury but may also be considered in the race to fill Allar’s shoes.

Franklin has expressed that the team is looking at utilizing any and all available resources in the upcoming game. This gives the impression that they are willing to use multiple quarterbacks if it becomes necessary. “The reality is, we’re going to have to have both guys ready and you could make the argument, all three guys ready,” Franklin stated, stressing on the vitalness of a robust backup plan for Allar.

The decision regarding Allar’s playtime is a serious one as the upcoming game holds substantial significance for Penn State. The game’s outcome could have a huge impact on the conference championship and affect the playoff scenarios. Franklin is optimistic about preparing all the quarterbacks but also hopeful about Allar’s ability to play. The final call, however, will rest on Allar’s fitness closer to game time.
