Doncic’s 36 points lead Mavericks to NBA Finals with 124-103 victory against Timberwolves

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-103 in the Western Conference finals behind a strong performance from Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Doncic scored 36 points, including a 20-point first quarter, while Irving also had 36 points. The Mavericks built a 29-point halftime lead and cruised to victory, advancing to the NBA Finals for the franchise’s first appearance since winning the championship in 2011. The Timberwolves, led by Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns, were unable to match the offensive firepower of Doncic and Irving.

Irving improved his career record to 15-1 in closeout games in the playoffs, showcasing his championship experience. Doncic set the tone early in the game, hitting several deep shots and engaging with the fans. Despite facing double-teams and defensive pressure, Edwards struggled to find his rhythm as the Wolves fell behind in the series. The Mavericks’ defense was stifling, limiting the Wolves’ offensive opportunities and forcing turnovers.

The Timberwolves had difficulty finding cohesion on offense, with several possessions ending in shot clock violations or turnovers. Despite their progress in the postseason, they were unable to overcome the offensive dominance of the Mavericks. Doncic played with confidence and joy throughout the game, responding to taunts from fans with a smile. The combination of Irving and Doncic proved to be too much for the Timberwolves to handle in this series.

In the decisive first half, the Mavericks were able to build a commanding lead and maintain control of the game. The return of 7-foot-1 rookie Dereck Lively II from injury bolstered the Mavericks’ rim protection, allowing them to disrupt the Timberwolves’ offensive attacks. Gafford and Lively provided solid contributions on both ends of the court, helping the Mavericks secure the win and advance to the NBA Finals. With a week of rest before the Finals, the Mavericks will look to continue their strong play against the Boston Celtics.
