Despite her attempts to escape, she was initially unable to do so. However, she was able to send her location to a friend for help and eventually called 911 once she was able to get out of the car. The police were able to quickly locate and arrest Tapia-Arcibar because the woman had shared her device location with her friend.

The Austin Police Association President praised the woman for sharing her location, stating that it helped them get to her more quickly. If he does post bail, he will be required to wear a GPS ankle monitor and have no contact with the victim.
