Infielder Oswald Peraza is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a shoulder strain that was initially expected to keep him from throwing for six to eight weeks. Peraza will start a throwing program just four weeks after being diagnosed, showcasing progress in his rehab. Peraza had been competing for a bench spot in the team before his injury, but with potential options like Jon Berti and Oswaldo Cabrera performing well, he might end up in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre once fully healthy.
In a roster move, the Yankees traded reliever Nick Ramirez to the Dodgers for cash considerations after designating him for assignment. They also signed former Mets reliever Phil Bickford to a minor league contract, with the righty set to report to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after being released by the Mets following the signing of J.D. Martinez. Bickford’s addition provides depth to the Yankees’ bullpen and allows them to continue strengthening their pitching staff.
