Derek Jeter Finally Sells his New York Castle

After years of trying to sell his compound in Orange County, N.Y., Yankees legend Derek Jeter has finally found a buyer. The four-acre lakefront home, known as Tiedemann Castle, went into contract in May 25, after being re-listed for less than half of its original asking price. Originally listed for over $14 million, the asking price was slashed to $6.3 million this year. The estate includes a main house, guesthouse, pool house, and boat house, totaling over 12,500 square feet with six bedrooms and 13 bathrooms.

Built over a century ago, the home’s amenities include five kitchens, an infinity pool shaped like a baseball diamond, a lagoon, a game room, and turrets, earning it comparisons to a medieval castle. Mr. Jeter purchased the property in the early 2000s at the peak of his baseball career. In 2022, it went to auction but was unsuccessful, leading to a re-listing last month. The listing agent, Diane Mitchell of Wright Brothers Real Estate, is thrilled that the property is finally under contract, although the specifics of the deal have not been disclosed.

Aside from selling his Orange County estate, Mr. Jeter has been restructuring his real estate portfolio in recent years. In 2020, he listed his custom-built mansion in Tampa, Fla., for $29 million, and it sold for $22.5 million the following year. The Tampa Bay Times reported that the mansion was set to be demolished to make room for a new one. In Greenwood Lake, the village where his estate is located, the median listing price is $475,000, according to Realtor.com.

For Mr. Jeter, the Orange County property holds sentimental value as his grandfather, William “Sonny” Connors, was the adopted son of the home’s previous owners, who he spent summers with as a child. In Ian O’Connor’s book “The Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter,” it is mentioned that Mr. Jeter was not only interested in swimming but also in finding a partner to play catch with. Despite his emotional connection to the property, Mr. Jeter seems to be ready to part with it after several attempts to sell over the years.

The successful sale of the Tiedemann Castle marks the end of a long journey for Mr. Jeter in finding a buyer for his Orange County estate. The property’s unique features, including luxurious amenities and a stunning lakeside location, helped attract potential buyers despite the price reduction. As Mr. Jeter continues to reorganize his real estate holdings, this sale represents a significant step in his efforts to streamline his portfolio and move on from properties that no longer fit his current lifestyle or priorities.
