Deion Sanders confident despite Colorado’s significant transfer portal departures: ‘We’re solid’

Fourteen Colorado football players entered the transfer portal this week, causing some concern in Boulder. One of the players was former five-star corner Cormani McClain, which is not ideal after the Buffaloes’ 4-8 season. However, head coach Deion Sanders downplayed the impact of the departures, expressing confidence in the recruitment team and coaching staff. Sanders emphasized that the team is in a good position and is attracting starting-caliber players for potential visits. He also spoke positively about McClain, expressing his desire for the player to excel and reach his full potential.

Despite the departures, Sanders remains optimistic about the team’s future. He believes that occasional player turnover can be beneficial, as it allows individuals to disconnect and reconnect with new opportunities. Sanders acknowledged that players often play a role in recruiting their peers, and values the input of current players in the recruitment process. While Sanders’ son, Shilo Sanders, faced criticism for his social media post about recruiting players to Colorado, Deion defended the practice, stating that player-to-player connections are an integral part of the recruitment process.

Shedeur Sanders, Deion’s other son and a highly-touted quarterback, is expected to be a top selection in the upcoming NFL Draft. However, questions remain about the rest of the Colorado roster after last year’s disappointing season and the recent turnover of players. Despite these challenges, Sanders remains confident in the team’s ability to attract talented players and uphold its competitive edge in the future. He expressed a desire for all players, including those who choose to transfer, to find success and reach their full potential in their athletic and personal lives.

Overall, while the transfer portal activity may have initially caused concern among fans and observers, Deion Sanders and the Colorado coaching staff are taking a positive and proactive approach to the situation. Despite the departures, Sanders remains focused on bringing in new talent and maintaining the team’s competitive spirit. He sees player recruitment as a key component of the process and values the input and connections that current players can provide. With Shedeur Sanders’ potential NFL Draft success on the horizon, the focus now shifts to the future of the Colorado football program and how it will navigate the changing landscape of college football.
