Cruz campaign criticizes Texas Democratic convention for showcasing ‘radical’ governor from a blue state

Sen. Ted Cruz’s re-election campaign criticized Texas Democrats for featuring Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, labeled as “one of the most radical leftists,” alongside his opponent, Rep. Colin Allred, at their upcoming convention. The Cruz campaign spokesperson stated that Whitmer’s appearance at the convention signifies the Democrats’ goal to turn Texas into a liberal stronghold with the help of left-wing extremists like Allred. The campaign is confident that Texans will re-elect Cruz in November and reject the radical agenda promoted by Allred and Whitmer.

The Texas Democrats’ convention is set to take place in El Paso on June 6-8, with “thousands of Texas Democrats” expected to attend along with speakers from across the U.S. Whitmer, in a statement, emphasized the importance of winning Democratic seats to protect Americans’ freedoms and support working families. Allred echoed these sentiments, stating that Texas cannot afford another six years of Ted Cruz’s extreme politics and welcoming Whitmer to Texas as a leader who can work with both sides of the aisle to get things done.

Whitmer is known for implementing progressive policies such as expanding Medicaid coverage, increasing public education funding, advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, supporting environmental protections, and pushing for gun control measures. Cruz and Allred are preparing for an election showdown in November, with Cruz having $15.1 million cash-on-hand from his fundraising committees as of the end of March. This amount is more than double what Cruz had at the end of 2023. Allred’s campaign has raised over $9.5 million in the first quarter of 2024, totaling $28 million for his campaign thus far.

The Cruz campaign is confident that Texans will reject the radical agenda promoted by Whitmer and Allred, and re-elect Cruz in November to keep Texas conservative. Allred, on the other hand, emphasizes the importance of having leaders who can work across party lines to address the state’s challenges. The upcoming election will see a clash of ideologies and priorities between the candidates, with Cruz highlighting his record and conservative values, while Allred focuses on the need for change and a more collaborative approach to governance.

The presence of Whitmer at the Texas Democrats’ convention has sparked controversy, with Cruz’s campaign characterizing her as a radical leftist whose policies are not aligned with the values of Texas. Both Cruz and Allred are gearing up for a high-stakes election where their fundraising prowess and ability to mobilize supporters will be crucial. As the campaign unfolds, Texans will have the opportunity to decide the direction of their state and the issues that matter most to them, from healthcare and education to the environment and gun control. The outcome of the election will have far-reaching consequences for the future of Texas politics.
