Central Okanagan Search and Rescue’s Duane Tresnich and City of Kelowna’s transportation planner, Cameron Noonan, are working on a competitive selection process for a new operating term lasting two years. The call for proposals opened on April 2 and closes on May 7, with Lime’s existing permit being extended until July 7 to allow for a comprehensive selection process. The goal is to provide continuity for users as a new operator is chosen. Lime has announced the return of its fleet of motorized bikes and scooters to downtown Kelowna, with improved parking rules that require riders to leave their vehicles near digital parking pins in the Lime app to reduce clutter in the streets.

Lime plans to communicate the new parking rules to riders through in-app messages, emails, social media, and marketing campaigns. They will also have dedicated staff for early morning maintenance and rebalancing to improve street tidiness and reduce clutter. In addition, Lime will be offering a 10% discount to all students and faculty at UBC Okanagan as a way to deepen local partnerships in Kelowna. The company is working on enhancing their operations and user experience in the city while also showing commitment to local relationships and community engagement.

Noonan mentioned that the number of applications already submitted for the new operating term is unknown, but all companies offering similar services in Canada are aware of the opportunity. Lime’s new parking rules aim to improve the overall experience for riders in downtown Kelowna by ensuring vehicles are left in designated parking zones. The extension of Lime’s existing permit until July 7 allows time for the selection process to be conducted thoroughly and ensures a smooth transition for users to the new operator chosen through the competitive selection process.

Lime is focusing on simplifying the parking process for riders in downtown Kelowna by implementing mandatory parking zones near digital parking pins visible in the Lime app. They are also emphasizing clear communication with riders through various channels to ensure they understand and follow the new rules. By offering a 10% discount to students and faculty at UBC Okanagan, Lime is showing its dedication to establishing and deepening partnerships within the local community.
