Columnist at L.A. Times issues an apology for calling LSU players ‘dirty debutantes’ in article

Los Angeles Times columnist Ben Bolch recently issued an apology for his column that characterized the Sweet 16 game between UCLA and LSU in the women’s NCAA Tournament as a battle of good versus evil. LSU coach Kim Mulkey criticized the column as sexist and hurtful to her players, leading to the removal of references that deemed LSU’s players as “villains” and “dirty debutantes” and comparing UCLA’s team to “milk and cookies.” Bolch acknowledged his mistake and emphasized the importance of choosing words carefully as a journalist.

In other news, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark led her team to victory over Colorado, setting up a rematch with defending champion LSU in the Women’s March Madness. The 2024 Women’s Sweet 16 schedule, locations, and teams have been announced, with South Carolina remaining the favorite in the March Madness odds. Star players like Caitlin Clark of Iowa and Angel Reese of LSU are bringing their talent to the Albany 2 Regional, highlighting the excitement and competition of the tournament.

Unfortunately, incidents of racism have marred the NCAA Tournament, with Utah’s coach revealing that his team was shaken after experiencing racism near their hotel. Despite such challenges, players like JuJu Watkins of USC continue to shine, scoring 30 points to power her team past Baylor and secure a spot in the Elite Eight. This year’s tournament has also seen records broken, with Caitlin Clark surpassing Pete Maravich’s scoring record and LSU’s Flau’jae Johnson and Angel Reese leading the Tigers past UCLA and into the Elite Eight.

As the Women’s College Basketball tournament unfolds, fans can expect more thrilling games and standout performances from talented athletes. The tournament schedule, scores, dates, locations, and TV channels provide viewers with all the information they need to follow their favorite teams and players. Despite the controversy surrounding Ben Bolch’s column, the focus remains on the incredible athleticism and sportsmanship displayed by the women competing in the March Madness tournament.
