Co-op Live arena in Manchester in disarray as more concerts cancelled

Manchester’s Co-op Live, a newly opened £365 million arena, has faced a series of setbacks and cancellations in its opening weeks. More than 100,000 fans have been left disappointed as events were postponed due to building delays and technical issues. Multiple gigs, including a performance by rock band Keane and another by American rapper A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, were canceled last minute. Take That also had to move their May show to another venue due to ongoing technical issues at Co-op Live. The venue was supposed to rival London’s O2 arena but has struggled to live up to expectations.

The cancellation of these gigs has left fans emotional and frustrated. Some fans were in tears after learning that their long-awaited concert had been postponed. One mother expressed her disappointment at being stranded in Manchester with three teenagers from Leeds after the cancellation of the A Boogie Wit da Hoodie gig. Fans had spent significant amounts of money on tickets, travel, and accommodation, only to have their plans ruined. Others, like a young girl attending her first concert and a mother-daughter duo from Belfast, suffered major disappointments with their plans. The venue’s failure to meet expectations has raised questions about its readiness to host sell-out shows.

Co-op Live’s troubles began to surface with a test event featuring Rick Astley and other cancellations of the Black Keys and comedian Peter Kay’s gigs. Many fans were let down after 4,000 tickets were canceled, and some areas of the venue were not fully prepared for events. The postponement of Peter Kay’s shows with last-minute notices led him to express his frustration. The venue’s manager, Gary Roden, resigned amid claims that Co-op Live still resembled a building site in some areas. Despite opening as the biggest arena in Britain, Co-op Live has failed to deliver on its promise as a top entertainment venue for fans.

The cancellations have sparked outrage among fans who had eagerly anticipated performances at Co-op Live. Tickets for gigs by artists like Olivia Rodrigo were notoriously hard to come by, only to be canceled at the last minute. Some fans had made elaborate and expensive plans to attend shows, only to be left devastated at the news of the cancellations. The venue’s reputation has taken a hit as disappointed fans question why sell-out shows were being offered if the venue was not up to standards. The cancellations have raised concerns about Co-op Live’s ability to host major events and deliver on its promises to fans and artists.

Overall, Co-op Live’s troubled opening weeks have been marked by cancellations and postponements of several high-profile gigs. Building delays, technical issues, and last-minute cancellations have left fans disappointed and frustrated. Inadequate preparations and ongoing problems with the venue’s facilities have raised questions about its readiness to host major events. Fans who had spent significant amounts of money and time to attend shows at Co-op Live have been left emotional and disappointed by the cancellations. The venue’s reputation as a top entertainment destination has been tarnished by its inability to deliver on its promises to fans and artists.
