Clues and Solutions for Spangram #47 from NYT ‘Strands’ on April 19th

The Strands guide for Thursday has been released, marking the end of the week for the author, who will be passing the baton to colleague Kris Holt for the next couple of weeks. The puzzles have been enjoyable, and even though the author won’t be writing guides for a while, they will continue to do the puzzles. The author will still be writing daily Wordle guides, so be on the lookout for those in the future. Spring is in full swing, and it’s the perfect time to enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and swimming.

The New York Times’ Strands puzzle is a twist on the classic word search game and is currently in beta. Players are presented with a six by eight grid of letters and must find a group of words that have something in common. The theme words are highlighted in blue, while a special word called a spangram links two opposite sides of the board and is highlighted in yellow. The goal is to find the theme words and the spangram to solve the puzzle.

Today’s Strands puzzle hint is “Get to work!” with an extra hint related to the dial. The answer words for today’s puzzle relate to things you would find or hear in the car on your way to work. The theme is centered around the experience of a commute and what that feels like. The theme words for today’s puzzle are music, talk, comedy, traffic, weather, sports, and news, which all relate to different radio stations or genres. It was a bit trickier than previous days, but once the pieces started to click, it became clearer.

The spangram for today’s puzzle is “DRIVETIME,” which fits with the theme of commuting to work. Each of the answer words are related to what you would typically listen to on the radio during a drive to work. The author initially thought the puzzle was more about a general commute, but with the inclusion of sports, news, and weather, it became evident that it was radio-specific. The puzzle may have been tougher for those who don’t commute or listen to the radio frequently. Overall, it was an enjoyable challenge once the connections started to come together.

For more puzzle guides and content, be sure to check out the author’s blog for daily Wordle guides and other related topics like TV shows, streaming guides, movie reviews, and video game coverage. Stay tuned for more updates and puzzles, and don’t forget to share your progress on social media with the author. Thank you for stopping by and happy puzzling!
