The fourth day of the 45th edition of the Meeting for Friendship among Peoples in Rimini was full of events. Key speakers included the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty Francesco Lollobrigida, who discussed sustainability in the agri-food sector, and Minister of Economy Giancarlo Giorgetti, who spoke about businesses and European regulations. Other notable speakers included the Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano and European Commissioner for the Economy Paolo Gentiloni.
During the panel on sustainability, Lollobrigida emphasized Italy’s commitment to food quality control and highlighted the importance of the Common Agricultural Policy in providing farmers with a fair income. He stressed the need to balance environmental, economic, and social sustainability to achieve overall success. Minister of Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin also addressed the importance of realistic approaches to nuclear energy and biodiversity preservation at the event.
The third day of the Meeting focused on artificial intelligence, with experts discussing the potential impact of AI on society. The theme of “Paths to Peace” was also explored, with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani participating in the discussions. The event highlighted the ethical and moral implications of AI advancements and their potential effects on global peace and stability.
Discussions around the role of businesses and production chains in Italy were also prominent during the Meeting. Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, called on Fiat and Stellantis to take greater social responsibility, especially in terms of housing for workers. The importance of strategic planning for infrastructure development, even in underdeveloped regions, was underscored by Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Matteo Salvini, as well as Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi.
The Meeting’s first day was marked by addresses from religious and political leaders who discussed global challenges such as the situation in the Middle East and the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation. Cardinale Pierbattista Pizzaballa emphasized the need for peace in the region, while acknowledging the complex dynamics at play. Panetta, the Governor of the Bank of Italy, also highlighted the demographic challenges facing Europe and suggested a rational approach to immigration to address these issues.
The Meeting featured a diverse program including conferences, exhibitions, performances, and activities for children and young people. With over 140 conferences, 16 exhibitions, 18 performances, and a focus on sports and youth engagement, the event offered a comprehensive platform for dialogue and cultural exchange. The involvement of volunteers, technological advancements in communication, and partnerships with various institutions and companies underscored the Meeting’s importance as a platform for promoting friendship and cooperation among peoples.
