City of Baltimore takes legal action against owner and operator of ship that caused Key Bridge collapse

The city of Baltimore has filed a legal claim against the owner and manager of a cargo ship that struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing it to collapse. The ship, called the Dali, is owned by Grace Ocean Private Limited and managed by Synergy Marine PTE LTD. The claim accuses both companies of providing the vessel with an incompetent crew that lacked proper skill and training. Baltimore is seeking unspecified damages for the collapse of the bridge, which occurred on March 26 and resulted in at least six fatalities and significant property damage.

The claim alleges that the Dali left port despite indications that it had an inconsistent power supply. The city of Baltimore is taking legal action to ensure that residents and businesses affected by the Key Bridge catastrophe are adequately compensated for their losses. Grace Ocean and Synergy Marine had previously filed a petition in federal court seeking a $43.6 million limit on potential liability payouts, but Baltimore is asking the court to deny their petition. The companies have not provided further comment on the ongoing investigations and legal proceedings related to the ship crash.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the US Coast Guard are conducting a criminal investigation into the ship crash, as well as looking into whether the crew failed to report an earlier issue with the ship that delayed its departure. The city of Baltimore is holding the ship owner and manager responsible for the collapse of the Key Bridge, citing negligence on their part. The legal claim seeks to ensure that those affected by the incident receive proper compensation for their losses and damages. The investigation into the ship crash is ongoing, with federal authorities leading the efforts to determine the causes and responsibility for the disaster.

The collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge has had significant economic repercussions for Baltimore and the region, as the bridge was a vital economic channel used by thousands of Marylanders daily. The city is seeking justice for the victims of the collapse and holding accountable those responsible for the tragic incident. The legal claim against the owner and manager of the cargo ship highlights the importance of proper training and maintenance in the maritime industry to prevent such accidents in the future. The ongoing investigations and legal proceedings will reveal more details about the causes of the ship crash and the measures needed to prevent similar incidents from occurring again.
