A couple from Houston, Texas, Bill and Becky Chilcutt, had spent the past twenty years visiting every state capitol in the United States. However, their plans to visit the last state capitol, Alaska, were halted when Bill was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Feeling defeated, the couple’s local Chick-fil-A stepped in to help make their dream a reality. The employees at Chick-fil-A Market in Springwoods Village contacted the Alaska State Capitol to see if there was a way for the Chilcutts to visit virtually.
The Alaska State Capitol went above and beyond to ensure the Chilcutts could experience their last state capitol visit. They took the couple’s wedding photo and placed it around the building in Juneau, Alaska. The employees even signed the couple’s names on the visitors’ log. The photos, scrapbook, and gifts were sent to the Chilcutts, while the Chick-fil-A team presented them with a custom drawing of the couple in front of Juneau’s Mendenhall Glacier. This gesture brought a piece of Alaska to Texas for the Chilcutts, who were overwhelmed with gratitude.
Mike Magdaleno, the owner and operator of the Chick-fil-A location that the Chilcutts frequented, expressed how much the couple meant to their team. Having been married for over 50 years, Bill and Becky Chilcutt were an integral part of their Chick-fil-A community. From participating in morning bingo to celebrating family milestones, the couple had become a beloved part of the restaurant. The team was determined to help the Chilcutts achieve their goal of visiting every state capitol, and they were thrilled to be able to bring a small piece of Alaska to Texas for them.
