Chelsea has paid a staggering fee per minute played due to Romeo Lavia’s injury setback.

Romeo Lavia, who joined Chelsea from Southampton for £58 million last summer, has had a difficult start to his career with the club. He has only played for 32 minutes this season and has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury. This means that he has cost the team approximately £1.8 million per minute played this season. Lavia made his debut for Chelsea in December, playing during a match against Crystal Palace. However, he picked up a hamstring issue during that game and has not played since.

Lavia’s injury will not only keep him out for the rest of the domestic season but could also affect his chances of playing in Euro 2024 for Belgium. He made his senior international debut in March 2023 but has not added to his one cap since. In a statement on Twitter, Lavia expressed his frustration at missing the remainder of the season, as he had been eager to help his teammates on the pitch. Despite the setbacks, he remains committed to returning to action as soon as possible and thanked the Chelsea family for their support.

Before joining Chelsea, Lavia was an unused substitute for Southampton’s first Championship game of the season. He had to wait over four months before featuring in a matchday squad for Chelsea due to an injury suffered during training. Chelsea, who currently sit in 11th place in the Premier League table, have had a disappointing season so far but are still in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City. The Blues are only five points behind seventh-place West Ham and will be looking to finish the season strongly.

Chelsea fans had high hopes for Lavia when he joined the club, with some calling for him to be included in the starting XI after his impressive debut against Crystal Palace. However, his injury setback has prevented him from building on that performance. The 20-year-old midfielder will be looking to put this season behind him and focus on his recovery to come back stronger next season. With a hefty price tag attached to his name, Chelsea will be hoping that Lavia can justify the investment once he returns to full fitness.

Lavia’s injury serves as a reminder of the challenges that young players face when making a big-money move to a top club. The pressure to perform is immense, and injuries can disrupt their progress and affect their confidence. However, with the right support and determination, players like Lavia can overcome these obstacles and fulfill their potential. Chelsea will be hoping that Lavia can recover quickly and make a significant impact for the team in the seasons to come.
