Celebrities bringing back the ‘cheeky’ mini mullet that Gen Z guys are obsessed with

The mini mullet, described as having a ’70s/’80s rockstar vibe, is becoming one of the most popular haircuts among Hollywood hunks and Gen Z admirers. Celebrities like Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, and Austin Butler have started rocking the cut, while Harry Styles’ new summer look has generated buzz among fans. In response to this trend, barbershops worldwide are seeing an increase in requests for the updated mullet, once a controversial and ridiculed cut associated with a rebellious edginess. UK barbers also report a rise in mullet requests, with the style spreading beyond musicians and creatives to accountants and other professionals.

Beyond its cool factor, the mini mullet is also gaining popularity among women. Some women find the style appealing, associating it with confidence, a sense of humor, or a rebellious edge. Even celebrity stylist Halley Brisker has been tempted to try the style himself. However, industry professionals note that achieving a mullet, even a mini one, can be challenging as it requires specific hair texture. Men who lack the necessary texture have turned to perms to add curls, waves, or structure to their hair, with some even opting for the “broccoli cut,” a shaggy mop style that has become popular among Gen Z boys on platforms like TikTok.

Despite the popularity of the mini mullet, achieving the style can be difficult for some men due to hair texture limitations. Brisker noted that while he could change his haircut, he couldn’t alter his hair texture, impacting the final result of the cut he was aiming for. This challenge has led many men to seek out perms as a way to add the desired texture to achieve popular hairstyles like the mini mullet or the broccoli cut. Even teenagers who have straight hair but desire curls are willing to spend money on perms to achieve the desired look, showcasing the influence of social media trends on hair fashion.

As the mini mullet trend continues to gain momentum, both in Hollywood and among ordinary individuals, the style is becoming more widely accepted and integrated into mainstream fashion. The rebellious edginess once associated with the mullet is now seen as a sign of confidence and style, appealing to a diverse range of individuals. With celebrities, barbers, and everyday people embracing the mini mullet, this controversial style is cementing its status as one of the hottest hairstyles of the year, showcasing the cyclical nature of fashion trends and the influence of social media on modern grooming practices. Whether you love it or hate it, the mini mullet is making a strong comeback and proving that past trends can be reimagined and adapted for a new generation.
