Millions of Brits have been warned to brace themselves for a gloomy Bank Holiday weekend with hailstorms, thunder, and travel misery ahead. The Met Office predicts that the weekend could be a windy and cold washout for many parts of the UK, with heavy rainfall expected in areas such as Edinburgh, Inverness, Newcastle, Birmingham, London, and Southampton on Saturday. Strong winds up to 43 miles per hour are forecasted, along with the possibility of hailstorms and thunder. The weekend weather outlook seems unfavorable for many, as hopes of a mini heatwave have evaporated. Stormy conditions could persist for up to 18 hours, leaving several areas of the country covered in rain and battered by winds. The forecast for the May Day Bank Holiday weekend is uncertain, with the potential for a more unsettled spell.

The forecast for the weekend includes cloudy skies, bright spells, and showery rain, with a risk of thunderstorms and hail at times. It will feel warm for many, with uncertain conditions expected through the bank holiday weekend. The weekend may see a warm but cloudy period with bright spells, especially in the north, while showers are more likely in the south. There is also a potential for a more unsettled spell to spread from the west, bringing fresh winds and bands of rain mid-weekend. Overall, southern parts of the UK are expected to be the driest and sunniest, with a northwesterly wind likely to bring more changeable conditions across the north and northwest. Temperatures should remain close to or slightly above normal for early May. The rest of May is forecasted to be unsettled, with some spells of wet weather likely for all.

Drivers in the North West, East Anglia, and South West are likely to face heavy traffic on Monday and have been urged to travel before 9am or after 5pm to avoid congestion. The Met Office advises caution as people head out to make the most of their days off, stating that conditions are uncertain, with a potential for a more unsettled spell. The weekend does not seem to be filled with barbecue weather, as wet and windy conditions are expected in many parts of the country. The forecast for the new week indicates a mixture of showery periods or spells of rain for all areas, with generally drier conditions expected. The southern parts of the UK are likely to be the driest and sunniest, while a northwesterly wind could bring more changeable conditions across the north and northwest. Overall, the temperatures are expected to remain close to or slightly above normal for early May.

The weather outlook for the Bank Holiday weekend suggests that the weekend may be a challenging one for many Brits, with unsettled conditions, heavy rainfall, and strong winds expected in various parts of the country. The Met Office has issued warnings of hailstorms and thunder, further adding to the gloomy forecast. While hopes of warm temperatures and sunny spells have dwindled, and there is uncertainty surrounding the weather conditions, Brits are advised to take precautions and plan their travel accordingly. Despite the unsettled spell predicted by forecasters, the long weekend may not provide the ideal conditions for outdoor activities like barbecues, as wet and windy weather is expected to persist across the UK.
