Bucks rely on Damian Lillard’s 35 points in first half to defeat Pacers 109-94 in playoff opener, despite absence of Giannis

Damian Lillard led the Milwaukee Bucks to victory in their Eastern Conference playoff opener against the Indiana Pacers, scoring all 35 of his points in the first half. The Bucks were without Giannis Antetokounmpo, who is dealing with a strained left calf. Despite the absence of their star player, the Bucks were able to rely on Lillard’s standout performance to secure the win. Pascal Siakam had a strong showing for the Pacers with 36 points and 13 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Bucks’ strong offense. Indiana is looking to advance past the first round of the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Khris Middleton and Bobby Portis also had solid performances for the Bucks, contributing to the team’s success in the absence of Antetokounmpo. Game 2 of the series is set to take place in Milwaukee on Tuesday, giving both teams a chance to make adjustments and come back stronger. Lillard’s impressive scoring in the first half set a Bucks record for points in either half of a playoff game, showcasing his importance to the team’s playoff aspirations. Despite a strong effort from the Pacers in the second half to contain Lillard, the Bucks were able to maintain their lead and secure the win.

Lillard’s dominant first-half performance included 19 points in the opening period, setting a high bar for playoff openers in recent history. His scoring spree continued through the second quarter, with the Bucks outscoring the Pacers while Lillard was on the bench. Milwaukee’s strong offensive performance in the first half allowed them to build a significant lead going into halftime. Although the Pacers made a comeback attempt in the second half, the Bucks were able to regain control and extend their advantage.

The Pacers struggled from beyond the arc, shooting just 8 of 39 from 3-point range, which limited their ability to keep up with the Bucks’ scoring. While Siakam had a standout performance for Indiana, the team will need to make adjustments in order to bounce back in Game 2. The Bucks showed their depth and ability to step up in the absence of Antetokounmpo, with Middleton and Portis making significant contributions to the team’s success. With Antetokounmpo’s return date uncertain, Lillard’s performance will be crucial for the Bucks as they look to advance in the playoffs.

As the series moves forward, both teams will be looking to make strategic adjustments to gain an edge over their opponent. The Bucks will need to continue to rely on Lillard’s scoring and the contributions of other key players to maintain their momentum in the playoffs. The Pacers will aim to improve their shooting and defensive performance to challenge the Bucks in Game 2 and beyond. With the series set to continue in Milwaukee, both teams will have to be at their best to secure a victory and advance in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
