The Los Angeles Lakers have announced that rookie guard Bronny James has been assigned to their G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers. Although Bronny will remain with the Lakers for Friday’s match against the Philadelphia 76ers, he will debut for South Bay on Saturday. He is expected to play exclusively in South Bay home games, while also being transferred back and forth between the NBA and G League teams for the rest of the NBA season, as reported by ESPN.
Bronny has made appearances in four of the Lakers’ eight games and has played around 13 minutes in total this season. His first points were scored in the team’s defeat against the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 30th, where his father, LeBron James, spent a combined 11 seasons and was a key player in the victory of the 2016 NBA Finals.
Bronny was picked by Los Angeles with the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft from USC. As of now, the Lakers hold the 10th seed in the Western Conference with a 4-4 record. Bronny and LeBron hold the unique distinction of being the first father-son pairing to play together in NBA, and indeed, to be together on the same NBA team in the history of the league.
The elder James, a four-time NBA MVP, is still demonstrating impressive form at 39 years old. He is averaging 24.0 points, with 7.5 assists, and 6.9 rebounds per game, and is shooting 51.1/46.8/78.0.
