Brits prepare for intense thunderstorms following beautiful 23C weather surge in the UK

The UK is expected to have sunny weather on Wednesday, especially in Scotland. However, a change is forecasted for Thursday with thunderstorms expected to hit parts of England’s southern counties. The thunderstorms will bring heavy rain, with some areas expected to receive nearly one third of a typical May’s precipitation. The most intense storms are predicted for Surrey, Kent, and areas as far west as Pembrokeshire and as far east as Canterbury. While the thunder and lightning will pass quickly, showers will continue throughout the night, especially in the Home Counties.

After the brief period of thunderstorms on Thursday, the weather is expected to remain unsettled across the UK. Temperatures could reach up to 23C in Moray and Scottish Highlands, adding to what some call a “mini heatwave.” Despite the sunny spell in certain locations, more rain is expected for the rest of May, with the possibility of showers across the southern half of the UK. The Met Office suggests that showers may be thundery, with variations in rainfall levels. While temperatures will likely remain above average for May, the month will continue to be unsettled, with possible fog in some areas on Friday.

Plans for a warmer and sunnier day on Thursday could be disrupted by the incoming thunderstorms in southern parts of England. The rain is expected to be heavy, with areas like Surrey and Kent likely to experience the brunt of the storms. In addition to the downpours, thunder and lightning are forecasted, with the weather map predicting lively storms in Wiltshire and Somerset as well. Following the storms, the rain is expected to move southward, impacting much of the Midlands and eastern areas. However, exact details for the rest of May remain uncertain, with the possibility of more showers and unsettled conditions.

Despite a glorious day of sunshine expected across the UK on Wednesday, the weather is set to transition to thunderstorms on Thursday, particularly in southern England. Ahead of the storms, temperatures are expected to rise, potentially reaching 23C in some areas. While last week saw temperatures exceeding 24C for several days, including a peak of 25.9C in East Sussex, the Met Office warns that this week’s sunny spell will be short-lived. Accumulating rain in recent days and forecasts for more showers throughout May indicate an unsettled pattern, although temperatures are likely to stay above average. The coming days will bring a mix of sunshine, rain, and possible thunderstorms, making it a varied weather outlook for the UK.
