Brian Wilson, founder of the Beach Boys, has been placed under conservatorship following the death of his wife, Melinda, who was his primary caregiver. His publicist, Jean Sievers, and business manager, LeeAnn Hard, were appointed as conservators for Wilson, who has dementia. The conservatorship, approved by a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge, covers decisions related to Wilson’s personal care and healthcare. Wilson, known for his work on albums like “Pet Sounds,” has been taking medication for dementia and is unable to care for himself.

Melinda had taken care of Wilson’s daily living needs and was named as his agent for healthcare in his advance health directive. Hard and Sievers will now handle arrangements for his care, and Wilson will continue living in his home. The judge also indicated that Wilson’s children will be consulted on any major healthcare decisions. Wilson has seven children, two with his first wife Marilyn Rovell and five with Melinda. Wilson and Melinda met in the late 1980s, reconnecting years later and marrying in 1995 after Wilson had freed himself from the controversial treatment of psychologist Eugene Landy.

Their relationship was depicted in the 2015 film “Love & Mercy,” with Paul Dano and John Cusack portraying Brian and Elizabeth Banks as Melinda. Following Melinda’s death on Jan. 30, Wilson posted a statement on his website expressing his deep grief and the significant role she played in his life. He described Melinda as his savior, providing emotional support that enabled him to pursue his career and create music that truly reflected his heart. Wilson asked for prayers for his beloved wife, highlighting the impact she had on his life.

Wilson’s family and representatives seek the conservatorship to ensure that he receives the necessary care and support while dealing with his dementia. The conservatorship covers decisions related to Wilson’s personal care, as he is unable to care for himself due to his health condition. His team of conservators, including his publicist Jean Sievers and business manager LeeAnn Hard, have a close relationship with Wilson and have been appointed to oversee his care arrangements moving forward. Wilson’s children will also be consulted on important healthcare decisions regarding their father’s condition.

Throughout his career, Wilson has been recognized for his musical contributions as the primary composer behind many Beach Boys hits. He has struggled with mental health issues and faced challenges over the years, but Melinda played a crucial role in supporting him and helping him navigate his personal and professional life. With the conservatorship in place, Wilson’s loved ones and devoted team of caretakers will ensure that he receives the care and support he needs as he continues to battle dementia. Wilson’s legacy as a musical innovator and creative force will be preserved, thanks to the efforts of those who care for him.
