Bowen Yang, a star of Saturday Night Live, reveals in an exclusive interview with Us Weekly that he was extremely nervous when there was a rumor that Cher might be coming to the show. Yang has been working on SNL since 2018, initially on the writing staff before becoming a cast member. He also worked with A-list stars outside of the show, including helping Sandra Bullock remember her lines in The Lost City, which he considers one of his proudest career moments.

Yang shares some interesting facts about himself, including feeling his hottest when dressed as a leather daddy in a Village People skit on SNL. He jokes about having Dolly Parton’s fax machine in his phonebook since she doesn’t use a phone. He also mentions that he has a strong emotional connection to the movie Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and the A Walk to Remember soundtrack.

The actor also reveals some personal tidbits such as his love for fresh, clean underwear, his dream to be directed by Blake Lively, and his passion for karaoke, particularly singing “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake. Yang expresses his admiration for Kaia Gerber and talks about his past job doing emotional labor for female teachers. He also humorously mentions his talent for knowing exactly how long to microwave something.

Yang shares more intimate details about himself, including ordering fuzzy navels while he was still in the closet, and his love for tradition and emoticons over emojis. He recalls looking up to actress Pat Carroll as a child and reveals that he can’t leave the house without his phone, keys, and an unshakable sense of self, which he admits he has never found. His favorite comfort meal is chicken potpie and Diet Coke, although he mentions the challenge of finding restaurants that serve these items.

The actor also reflects on lessons he’s learned from SNL creator Lorne Michaels, particularly how to discreetly bring up the fact that he’s Canadian to strangers. Yang shares that he loves the feeling of vacationing in his bed next to his PS5 but reassures that he’s not depressed. He also humorously comments on his alternate profession as a microwave chef and his unconventional approach to TV shows, preferring to sample them rather than binge-watch. Overall, Yang offers an intriguing look into his quirky and humorous personality through these fun facts and anecdotes shared with Us Weekly.
