Border Mayor Warns of Possible Hamas-Style Attack amid Migrant Surge in California

The surge of migrants across the southern border is causing concern among California officials, who believe that this poses a clear national security threat. El Cajon Mayor and congressional candidate Bill Wells expressed his worries that a Hamas-style attack or another 9/11-style attack could potentially happen due to the uncontrolled flow of migrants. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens also highlighted the threat posed by the unknown individuals who have crossed the border illegally, stating that these individuals could potentially bring harmful intentions into the United States.

Fredy Ivan Jandres-Parada, described as a senior leader of MS-13, was arrested at the California-Mexico border last month after being on the run for over three years. Border Patrol agents also caught another MS-13 member trying to sneak into the country near Calexico, raising concerns about how many more criminals may have crossed the border undetected. San Diego County Supervisor Jim Desmond emphasized the importance of proper vetting processes for migrants coming into the country, as the border officials may not have access to crime and terrorism databases from certain countries.

There have been over 3.2 million migrant encounters in fiscal year 2023, primarily at the southern land border, according to Customs and Border Protection data. Despite a decrease in monthly encounters since reaching a high point in December, 2024 is still on track to set a new yearly record. California officials are worried that unchecked border crossings could lead to a serious incident involving migrants with harmful intentions, putting the safety and security of the country at risk. Proper vetting and screening of individuals crossing the border is crucial to prevent potential threats.

After the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, there was a heightened focus on security measures to protect the country. However, the current situation at the southern border, with a lack of proper vetting and screening procedures for migrants entering the country, is raising concerns among officials like Bill Wells and Jim Desmond. The changing landscape and the increased flow of migrants into the country without thorough background checks are seen as a potential security risk that could have serious consequences in the future.

The worries expressed by California officials about the national security threat posed by the surge of migrants across the southern border highlight the need for stricter border control measures and enhanced vetting processes. The recent arrests of MS-13 members and concerns about unknown individuals crossing the border undetected have raised alarm bells about the potential risks involved. The fear of a possible major security incident involving individuals with harmful intentions underscores the importance of addressing these security vulnerabilities and implementing tighter border security measures to protect the country from potential threats.
