President Biden gave an update on the government’s aid efforts in the wake of Hurricane Milton, urging caution and compliance with local authorities as dangerous conditions persist. He emphasized the need for emergency funding, particularly for small businesses, as the disaster relief fund is running low. However, he has not spoken with House Speaker Mike Johnson about bringing Congress back before Election Day, as Johnson stated resources are currently sufficient to address immediate needs. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reported 10 confirmed deaths from tornadoes resulting from Milton, with over 3 million people in Florida without power.

Mr. Biden stated that he and Vice President Harris have been in constant contact with state and local officials, offering all necessary support. He commended military first responders for their professionalism and dedication to their missions. The president also warned against the spread of misinformation surrounding Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, emphasizing that those taking advantage of Americans’ desperation will be held accountable. He criticized former President Trump for spreading lies about government aid and called on him to focus on helping those in need.

Members of Congress, especially those in key battleground districts, are currently focused on campaigning in the final weeks before the election. The president highlighted the importance of heeding the guidance of local leaders and waiting for the all-clear before venturing out into dangerous conditions. He referenced past hurricanes where more lives were lost in the aftermath than during the storm itself, emphasizing the need for caution and preparedness. Mr. Biden’s team is working with federal, state, and local authorities to assess and address the situation in the affected areas.

In his update, President Biden thanked first responders on the ground for their dedication and service, acknowledging the challenging conditions they are facing. He stressed the importance of unity and support for those affected by Hurricane Milton, calling on Americans to come together and help one another through this difficult time. The president’s message reiterated the government’s commitment to providing all necessary resources and assistance to those impacted by the storm. He emphasized the need for quick action from lawmakers to ensure sufficient emergency funding for recovery efforts.

Overall, President Biden’s update on the aftermath of Hurricane Milton highlighted the ongoing efforts to provide aid and support to affected communities. He urged caution, compliance with local authorities, and vigilance against misinformation in the wake of the disaster. The president’s message conveyed a sense of urgency in addressing the needs of those impacted by the hurricane and working towards recovery and rebuilding efforts. As the situation continues to unfold, the government remains committed to providing assistance and resources to assist in the recovery process.
