Biden unequivocally states he would not pardon son Hunter if convicted in gun trial

President Biden stated in an interview that he would not pardon his son, Hunter Biden, if he is convicted of felony charges related to his alleged purchase of a handgun while he was a drug user. Hunter Biden was indicted on three counts last year for unlawfully possessing a Colt Cobra 38SPL revolver and making false statements on a federal gun form about his drug use. Prosecutors claim that Hunter had lied about not being addicted to any controlled substance when he was addicted to crack cocaine. The trial for these charges began in federal court in Wilmington, Delaware, and Hunter has pleaded not guilty to all counts.

During the trial, first lady Jill Biden attended for several days before traveling to France to join the President for events marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day. She returned to Wilmington and was present in the courthouse for Friday’s proceedings. Other family members, including Hunter’s half-sister Ashley Biden, have also attended the trial. In an interview with ABC News, President Biden also commented on the recent historic conviction of former President Donald Trump on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. Biden stated that Trump received a fair trial and criticized Trump’s Republican supporters for undermining the rule of law and institutions.

President Biden confirmed that he would not pardon Hunter Biden and would accept the verdict of the trial, regardless of the outcome. The trial is expected to continue with the defense presenting its case after prosecutors call their last witness. It is uncertain whether Hunter Biden will take the stand during the trial to testify in his defense. First lady Jill Biden will travel back to France for a state visit over the weekend after attending the proceedings. President Biden’s stance on not pardoning his son contrasts with his comments about the fairness of Trump’s trial and conviction which he believes should be respected by all parties.

In his interview, President Biden condemned Trump’s Republican supporters for denouncing the verdict and trial as unfair and politically motivated. He urged them to stop undermining the rule of law and institutions, emphasizing the importance of respecting the judicial process. The President’s remarks come amidst a politically charged atmosphere surrounding high-profile trials and convictions involving public figures. Hunter Biden’s trial on the gun charges will proceed with both the prosecution and defense presenting their arguments, with the outcome remaining uncertain. President Biden’s decision not to pardon his son reflects his commitment to upholding the integrity of the legal system and respecting the verdict of the court.
