The commemoration of Silvio Berlusconi, one year after his passing, began in the Chamber of Palazzo Madama. The first to speak was the leader of Forza Italia, Maurizio Gasparri, followed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani and the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa. Tajani praised Berlusconi’s contributions to Italian politics, emphasizing his role in shaping bipolarism, his dedication to liberal and European values, and his efforts to strengthen Italy’s presence globally. A minute of silence was observed at the start of the meeting to honor Berlusconi’s memory.

President Sergio Mattarella also expressed his condolences to Berlusconi’s family, sending a letter of sympathy. In a public letter shared on social media, Licia Ronzulli, a senator for Forza Italia and Vice President of Palazzo Madama, addressed Berlusconi with the same term of endearment as she had used a year ago during a public commemoration at the Senate, calling him “Dear Doctor.” Ronzulli reflected on the difficulties of accepting Berlusconi’s absence but expressed gratitude for the lessons he had imparted and the strength he had instilled in his followers. She credited Berlusconi for guiding Forza Italia through a period of uncertainty following his passing.

Ronzulli highlighted Berlusconi’s resilience in facing challenges with a smile, determination, and courage, emphasizing the enduring impact of his leadership. She acknowledged the fears within Forza Italia that the party might not survive without Berlusconi but praised the community’s resilience and dedication in carrying on his legacy. Ronzulli asserted that despite the ongoing pain of Berlusconi’s loss, his teachings and vision continue to inspire the party to persevere and succeed in his honor.

The letter from Ronzulli also emphasized the continued relevance of Berlusconi’s ideas and the unwavering commitment of Forza Italia to uphold his legacy. She credited the unity and determination of the party members for overcoming challenges and staying true to the path that Berlusconi had paved. Ronzulli conveyed a sense of pride in the party’s achievements since Berlusconi’s passing and expressed confidence that his memory would continue to guide them in the future. She concluded by referencing Berlusconi’s enduring influence and the symbolic “sun in our pocket” that he had taught them to carry, brightening their path forward.

Overall, the commemoration of Silvio Berlusconi one year after his death highlighted his lasting impact on Italian politics and the enduring influence of his leadership on Forza Italia. Speakers praised Berlusconi’s contributions to shaping the nation’s political landscape and transforming the party into a formidable force. The expressions of grief and gratitude from political figures and party members underscored Berlusconi’s legacy as a visionary leader and a unifying figure within Forza Italia. As the party continues to navigate the challenges of the political arena, Berlusconi’s memory remains a guiding light, inspiring resilience, unity, and commitment to his ideals.
