Tourism officials in Banff and Lake Louise, Alberta, are reassuring visitors that the towns are open for business as Jasper National Park remains closed due to wildfires. Banff and Lake Louise Tourism emphasized that there are currently no wildfires threatening the communities and that public safety and infrastructure are not at risk. The tourism agency encouraged visitors who had planned trips to Banff and Lake Louise this summer to proceed with their plans, ensuring that their experience in the Rocky Mountain towns will be memorable.

Located more than 200 kilometers south of Jasper, Banff and Lake Louise heavily rely on tourism to support their economies and the thousands of people who live and work in the communities. Over 750 businesses are part of the broader tourism ecosystem in the area, with more than 60 percent of the destination’s revenue generated between May and September. The officials acknowledged that smoke from wildfires in the region may affect the area, but the level of smokiness is continually changing. While Jasper National Park remains closed and under an evacuation order due to wildfires, Banff and Lake Louise are unaffected and welcoming visitors.

The evacuation of Jasper National Park was initiated on July 22 as wildfires approached the community. The evacuation order is still in place and the Jasper wildfire complex, which is about 32,000 hectares in size, remains out of control as of the latest update. For the most up-to-date information on wildfire-related evacuation alerts or orders in Alberta, visitors are encouraged to visit the Alberta Emergency Alert website. To stay informed about the wildfire status and danger across the province, accessing the Alberta Wildfire website is recommended. Information on fire advisories, restrictions, and bans throughout Alberta can also be found on the Alberta fire bans website.

As the situation with wildfires in Jasper National Park continues, Banff and Lake Louise Tourism officials are ensuring that visitors are kept informed about the status of the areas. The tourism agency is dedicated to supporting businesses in the region and providing a memorable experience for guests who choose to visit Banff and Lake Louise. While the smoke from wildfires in the region may affect visibility in the towns, there is no immediate danger to public safety or infrastructure, making it safe for visitors to explore the Rocky Mountain communities.

With Banff and Lake Louise being open for tourism and ready to welcome visitors, officials are working to alleviate any concerns travelers may have due to the fires in Jasper National Park. While the evacuation order remains in place for Jasper and the wildfires continue to be out of control, the communities of Banff and Lake Louise remain unaffected and offer a safe and enjoyable destination for visitors. It is essential for tourists to stay updated on the wildfire situation in Alberta by visiting the respective websites for emergency alerts, wildfire status, and fire bans to ensure a smooth and informed travel experience in the region.
