Guerot’s brave actions during the Sydney shopping mall stabbing attack have not gone unnoticed. The French construction worker, nicknamed “Bollard Man” for confronting the attacker, has received praise from both the Australian government and opposition party. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has personally intervened to ensure that Guerot’s temporary work visa will be extended, and even offered him the opportunity to become an Australian citizen. The opposition leader, Peter Dutton, has also expressed support for Guerot staying in the country, highlighting his character and courage.

The security camera footage from the incident shows Guerot standing at the top of an escalator, ready to confront the attacker, Joel Cauchi, with a plastic bollard. Cauchi ultimately fled down the escalator, thanks to Guerot’s intervention, potentially preventing further casualties. Cauchi targeted women in the attack, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to several others, including a 9-month-old baby whose mother was killed. The police officer shot Cauchi dead to stop the rampage.

Guerot’s lawyer, Belinda Robinson, confirmed that the Australian government has provided assurance that Guerot will be granted a permanent resident visa, allowing him to stay in the country. Both the current government and the opposition party have expressed support for Guerot remaining in Australia, emphasizing his actions during the attack. Despite his current status as a temporary visa holder, Guerot’s bravery and quick thinking have earned him recognition and appreciation from the Australian authorities and the public.

In his own account of the incident, Guerot described how he and his friend encountered Cauchi’s rampage while heading towards a gym in the mall. Feeling compelled to intervene, Guerot took action by throwing a bollard at Cauchi and later brandishing a plastic chair in an attempt to stop him. His courage and determination to confront the attacker have been commended by many, including the prime minister and opposition leader, who see Guerot as a valuable asset to Australia. The assurance of his residency and potential citizenship reflects the government’s gratitude for his swift actions during a crisis.

The support and recognition given to Guerot highlight the importance of civilians stepping up in moments of crisis to prevent further harm. As Australia grapples with the aftermath of the tragic stabbing attack, Guerot’s actions serve as a reminder of the bravery and selflessness exhibited by individuals in times of need. The government’s decision to extend Guerot’s visa and offer him the opportunity to become an Australian citizen demonstrate the country’s appreciation for his heroism and willingness to protect others. Guerot’s story has resonated with many and serves as a testament to the courage and solidarity shown by ordinary citizens in the face of adversity.
