Australian-born teen pop singer Silia Kapsis represented Cyprus in the Eurovision finals in Sweden this year, where she placed 12th. Fans have expressed their wish that she represented Australia instead. Some fans took to social media to praise Kapsis, with one fan saying they wished she was Australia’s entry. Others joked about the “Cypriot-Australian Eurovision Entry Breeding Program” given that she is the second Aussie in two years to represent Cyprus.

During the grand finale of Eurovision, fans continued to praise Kapsis and express their support for her. Some controversial thoughts were shared, with one user suggesting that Cyprus sends better Australian acts than Australia does in some years. Switzerland ultimately won the grand final of Eurovision 2024, with singer Nemo becoming the competition’s first non-binary winner with their song “The Code.” The impressive performance combined rap, rock, drum ‘n bass, and classical opera, and Nemo expressed gratitude for the opportunity to stand for peace and dignity for all people.

Croatia finished in second place with the song “Rim Tim Tagi Dim” by Baby Lasagna, while Ukraine ended up in third place with the song “Teresa & Maria” by alyona alyona & Jerry Heil. Nemo was the favorite to win, with powerful odds leading up to the final. The artist explained that the song “The Code” reflects their realization of their non-binary identity and their desire to represent the LGBTQIA+ community through their music. Nemo, whose full name is Nemo Mettler, discussed breaking codes and not feeling like a man or a woman, leading to their significant performance at Eurovision.

Fans and viewers of Eurovision celebrated the inclusive and groundbreaking win by Nemo, highlighting the significance of having a non-binary winner for the first time in the competition’s history. Nemo’s emotional acceptance speech emphasized the importance of standing up for marginalized communities and promoting peace and dignity worldwide. The diverse and innovative performance by Nemo, which integrated elements of opera, rap, rock, and more, captivated audiences and solidified their place as a trailblazer in the music industry. The impact of Nemo’s victory extends beyond the Eurovision stage, inspiring and empowering listeners worldwide.
