Interior Minister Yerlikaya made a statement on social media about the incident that occurred in the district of Silopi. According to the statement, there was an explosion in a mining company’s service vehicle while it was on the road in the Siyahkaya region of the Çalışkan Village in Silopi District, reported in an emergency call to the 112 Emergency Call Center around 12:40 today.
Yerlikaya announced that security personnel dispatched to the scene took joint security measures with the Border Security Forces in the area where the explosion occurred to secure the transfer of the injured. One person died and eight others were injured in the explosion.
Regarding the current situation, Yerlikaya stated: “In the explosion, one of our citizens lost his life, and 8 of our citizens, including 2 critically injured, were wounded. The injured citizens have been taken to Silopi State Hospital for treatment.
Following the initial investigations conducted with the Ministry of National Defense, it is assessed that the attack carried out from the north of Iraq was due to hostility related to the coal mine operated in the region. Necessary security measures have been taken at the incident site, and a comprehensive investigation has been launched. I offer my condolences to the deceased citizen and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
