The University of Maryland has extended the contract of athletic director Damon Evans through June 2029. Evans took over as athletic director in 2018 and has led the Terrapins to three national titles in men’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, and men’s lacrosse during his tenure. The football team has also achieved success under Evans, winning bowl games in three consecutive years for the first time in program history. Maryland President Darryll Pines praised Evans for his leadership, stating that he has guided the athletic department to championship heights both on and off the playing fields. Evans has positioned the Terrapins for long-term success on the national stage.

One of Evans’ key hires was Mike Locksley, who has served as the head coach of the football team since 2018. Locksley has been instrumental in the team’s success, and Evans has shown confidence in his leadership by keeping him at the helm. Additionally, Evans brought in Kevin Willard as the new men’s basketball coach before the 2022-23 season, further showcasing his ability to make strategic hires that benefit Maryland’s athletic programs. These coaching decisions have contributed to the overall success of the Terrapins under Evans’ leadership.

The extension of Damon Evans’ contract reflects the University of Maryland’s commitment to his vision for the athletic department. Evans has proven himself to be an effective leader in a transformative time in the collegiate landscape, and his achievements have not gone unnoticed. By extending his contract through 2029, the university is signaling its confidence in Evans’ ability to continue guiding the Terrapins to success. This extension provides stability and continuity for Maryland athletics, allowing Evans to further build on the momentum and achievements already realized under his leadership.

Under Damon Evans’ tenure, Maryland Athletics has experienced significant success and growth, both in terms of athletic achievements and off-field accomplishments. Evans’ leadership has positioned the Terrapins for success on the national stage, with notable victories in various sports. The extension of his contract allows Evans to continue steering the athletic department in a positive direction, building on the foundation he has established since taking on the role of athletic director in 2018. The university’s decision to extend Evans’ contract underscores the value placed on his leadership and the belief in his ability to continue driving the success of Maryland athletics.

Looking ahead, Damon Evans will continue to focus on building a strong foundation for Maryland athletics and ensuring the long-term success of the Terrapins on the national stage. With key hires like Mike Locksley and Kevin Willard contributing to the success of the football and basketball programs, respectively, Evans has demonstrated his ability to make strategic decisions that benefit the overall athletic department. By extending his contract through 2029, the University of Maryland is providing Evans with the opportunity to further solidify his legacy and make a lasting impact on the athletic programs at the university. The future looks bright for Maryland Athletics under Evans’ leadership.
