Aston Martin Stays on Pure Power Path and Unveils New V12 Engine, Shuns Hybrids for Now

Aston Martin has unveiled its new turbocharged twelve-cylinder engine, set to power an upcoming flagship model believed to be the return of the Vanquish name. This engine will not be a hybrid and will deliver an impressive 823 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. The company promises a complete redesign of the existing engine with new turbochargers for better throttle response. Despite the industry trend towards electrification, Aston Martin remains committed to its V12 engine lineup, emphasizing emotion and exclusivity.

The British automaker, backed by majority stakeholder Lawrence Stroll, is one of the few remaining holdouts in the race towards electrification. While other supercar manufacturers like Bugatti, Lamborghini, and Ferrari are pursuing hybrid technology, Aston Martin’s most sought-after vehicles will still feature twelve-cylinder engines. Chief Technical Officer Roberto Fedeli described the new V12 engine as a statement of engineering passion and technical prowess, signaling a new era for Aston Martin.

Aston Martin plans to electrify its lineup by 2030, with a range of vehicles including an SUV, a low-profile SUV with coupe styling, a sports car, and a hypercar. CEO Stroll confirmed that the designs for these models are already completed, with deliveries expected to start in 2027. Stroll acknowledged the differing preferences of sports car and SUV customers, noting that while sports car enthusiasts prioritize sound and smell, SUV drivers are more interested in electrification for their daily driving needs.

The luxury brand has previously announced plans for an electrified future, with the Aston Martin Valhalla hybrid supercar in development and a technology sharing agreement with the Lucid Group. However, the introduction of a new twelve-cylinder engine signifies a commitment to its traditional lineup and a celebration of the company’s engineering heritage. Aston Martin aims to combine cutting-edge technology with the emotional engagement that defines its brand, appealing to enthusiasts who value the thrill of a V12 engine.

As Aston Martin prepares for its electrified future, it remains dedicated to its V12-engine flagships and the unique experience they offer. The company’s decision to prioritize V12 development amidst an industry shift towards electrification reflects its belief in the enduring appeal of traditional engine technology for sports car enthusiasts. While the landscape of supercars may evolve towards increased electrification, Aston Martin’s new V12 engine symbolizes a continuation of its legacy and commitment to delivering unparalleled performance and exclusivity to its customers.
