AS Reports Identify Real Madrid’s First Defensive Signing for Next Season

Real Madrid is looking to strengthen their backline for the upcoming 2024/25 campaign following the departure of club captain Nacho Fernández. Their top target is Rafael Marín, who is currently on loan at Deportivo Alavés and has been impressing with his performances. The 21-year-old defender wanted first-team experience, and after making himself a key player for Alavés, he has caught the eye of Real Madrid.

Marín, who stands at six feet and three inches, is known for his aerial presence and ability to play with both feet, making him a versatile defender. Despite facing challenges at Alavés, he has gained valuable experience and is determined to improve as a player. While breaking into the Real Madrid first team may be difficult given the competition, Marín is focused on continuing to work hard and gain as much experience as possible.

Born near Seville, Marín started his football journey at a young age and eventually made his way to Real Madrid’s Castilla team before his loan move to Alavés. He has also represented Spain at various youth levels and currently plays for the under 21 national team. Marín’s potential has attracted interest from Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, as well as Real Madrid’s former player Xabi Alonso.

Real Madrid’s defensive options could see further additions in addition to Marín, with Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies rumored to be a target as he enters the final year of his contract. The future of right-back Lucas Vázquez is also uncertain, which could prompt the club to seek cover in that position as well. Marín would likely join the team as the fourth choice central defender behind Antonio Rüdiger, David Alaba, and Éder Militão, providing depth and competition in the squad.

Overall, the potential signing of Rafael Marín signals Real Madrid’s intent to strengthen their defense for the upcoming season. With the departure of Nacho Fernández, the club is looking for young, talented defenders to bolster their squad and compete at the highest level. Marín’s progress and development at Alavés have positioned him as a promising option for Real Madrid, and his potential arrival could further enhance the team’s defensive capabilities as they aim for success in the 2024/25 campaign.
